Metal Hardness testing is becoming a routine but nevertheless, an important part of any production and quality process, as it determines the resistance to material penetration, which allows determining how easy that material can be processed and its wear and tear capabilities. There are different methods used to test materials for hardness: Vickers, Brinell, Rockwell, and Knoop methods. Hardness testing machines are built with different forces or so-called load application systems. Indentation values are displayed in Kilo-force. Brinell Hardness testing is used for metallic materials, especially when the specimen surface is rough, too coarse, including cast iron, lead, tin, pure aluminum. Rockwell Hardness testing and Superficial Rockwell need specimen preparation and are non- destructive testing methods. LHRS 150 can be used to perform testing on bearing steel, strip steel, hardened steel, hard alloys, chilled steel, quenched and tempered steel, annealing steel, etc,. Vickers and Knoop hardness testing is mostly used to measure on small specimens. That is why they are called micro – hardness methods. It should, however, be noted that Vickers might have a macro scale – large loading system. Leeb machines use Testing methods conforming to the following ASTM standards: Brinell – ASTM E10, Rockwell – ASTM E18; NASM-1312-6, Superficial Rockwell – ASTM E18; NASM-1312-6, Vickers – ASTM E384, ASTM E92.
